Importance of Water

The human body is composed of 60-70% water. Water is responsible for adequate blood volume to transport nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and waste products. It is also responsible for hydrating skin, regulating heat, and promoting proper elimination.

How much water should a person drink each day?

People should drink a minimum of five 12-ounce glasses of water daily. Other beverages should also be consumed, but limit caffeine, carbonated, and alcoholic beverages because they dehydrate the body. If you are very active, perspiring a lot, or breathing through your mouth more than usual, you will need to consume more water.
